It is true that even across the Himalayan barrier India has sent to the
West, such gifts as grammar and logic, philosophy and fables, hypnotism and chess, and above all numerals and the decimal system.

2007 TRIP REPORT

"The Study Abroad class that I took to India was by far the best class I took at GMU-SPP. It helped to me to visualize the concepts learned in other classes and to see regional development in action."             Sarah Bonner

A CLOSE-UP VIEW OF THE WORLD'S LARGEST DEMOCRACY IN ACTION: POLICY, DEVELOPMENT AND TRADE

Led by
KB Akhilesh,
Professor, Indian Institute of Science
Ramkishen S. Rajan, Associate Professor, School of Public Policy, GMU
Michal McElwain Malur, Director of External Programs, School of Public Policy, GMU

It is often said that the 21st century will belong to Asia, with India taking centre stage. This two-week study program will introduce you to India, which is the second most populous country in the world and one of the world's most dynamic economies. This mystical country of contrasts has a middle-class larger than the population of the United States, the world's largest pool of technically skilled persons, but is also home to more than 400 million of the world's poor. It is a land of 18 official national languages (many more unofficial ones) with multiple cultures, religions and ethnicities. This program will immerse you in the economics, politics, culture and heritage of India. India is the world's oldest civilization with a fast modernizing economy. India has a vibrant democracy. India will delight you with her colorful pageantry, enrich you with her culture, confuse you with her diversity, stun you with her achievements, while also shock you with all that she still needs to achieve in order to become a developed country. India is clearly a work in progress with a very bright future.

Sanskrit, which is the mother of all languages has a phrase, "Atithi devo bhava", which means "The guest is God". This is how you can expect to be treated. Study in India!
