Project: ITS infrastructure maintenance management Principle investigator: Hualiang (Harry) Teng, 434-924-1461, hht4n@virginia.edu External contact: Dwayne Cook, VDOT, Hampton Roads Smart Traffic Center Project objective: To evaluate the existing ITS infrastructure maintenance management Project
abstract: Maintaining ITS infrastructure is needed for the operation of ITS.
The goal and objectives of the system cannot be achieved if the ITS system doesn't
perform reliably due to the lack of maintenance. So far, ITS maintenance has been
focused on a macroscopic level where institutional issues have been discussed.
The maintenance issues such as the life cycle of system components and the system
as a whole haven't been touched upon. Tasks: 1.
Interview with the Hampton Roads and Nova STC to know their maintenance practices Milestones: Project will be completed in August 2004. Student involvement: 1 GRA Budget. $60,000 Relation to other research: Complement to previous work on ITS Technology transfer: (workshops, classes, seminars, products): Presentations at conferences, publication of journal papers, final report Potential benefits: Enhance maintenance for improving system performance TRB
