Britain,
the European Union and
the Challenge of Globalization
This
program will explore aspects of European integration as well as Britain's often
difficult involvement with the EU. In week one of the program, issues such as
European political and economic integration, Justice and Home Affairs (JHA) initiatives
and developments in both the EU and the UK in 2008 will be addressed. Week two
will focus on how the EU interacts with the rest of the World. Specifically, an
analysis will be undertaken of Common, Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) initiatives,
the EU's interaction with the World Trade Organization (WTO) and how the EU?s
development policy is conducted. A visit to various institutions in London will
complement the classroom presentations in Oxford. The course will take place in
beautiful Mansfield College, Oxford University, where participants will be exposed
to new perspectives in a unique academic setting.
