Transportation
Policy, Operations and Logistics Center (TPOL) at George Mason University conducts
a balanced program of sponsored research, independent research, and education.
The Center is housed in the School of Public Policy, and draws on the School's
faculty in regional science, technology policy, governance, and international
commerce.
Currently,
SPP's Transportation Policy, Operations and Logistics Center is
an umbrella
for the following five programs:

INTELLIGENT
TRANSPORTATIONS SYSTEMS
RESEARCH CENTER
Since
its founding in 1991, the Center has maintained an active sponsored research program
in intelligent transportation systems (ITS). TPOL manages the National ITS Implementation
Research Center, a consortium of George Mason University, the University of Virginia,
and Virginia Tech. TPOL is carrying out sponsored research on ITS deployment in
the Washington, D.C. region.

AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT RESEARCH CENTER
The
Center is a University Transportation Center funded by the U.S. Department of
Transportation.

AEROSPACE
POLICY RESEARCH CENTER
The
Center holds a Short Course on The US Government Space Sector. Now in
its fourth year, the course provides an overview of the departments and agencies,
both civil and military, involved with U.S. Government space programs.The two-and-one-half-day
course was developed primarily for individuals who would benefit from a broad-based
understanding of the overall extent of the U.S. Government's involvement in space.

SPONSORED
RESEARCH
Independent
work by TPOL scholars covers a broad range of transportation topics with particular
emphasis on regional science, technology policy, governance, and international
commerce.
MASTER'S
DEGREE IN TRANSPORTATION PROGRAM
A
Master's degree in Transportation Policy, Operations and Logistics has been offered
since the year 2000. The program is taught in person at George Mason's Arlington,
Northern Virginia, campus, and through interactive video-conferencing in six locations
around Virginia and in Montana. The program works closely with the Virginia Department
of Transportation, and roughly half the students are VDOT employees.
